“Fall” in Love with Nature in Monroe-West Monroe

October in North Louisiana means sunny and 75 most of the time. Although the early fall season doesn’t really allow for the idealistic wardrobe of chunky scarves or cozy sweaters, it does allow us to enjoy the outdoors comfortably. Lucky for us, the Louisiana Holiday Trail of Lights cities, Monroe and West Monroe, have some great outdoor events happening this month! This week, in celebration of National Wildlife Refuge Week, the Friends of Black Bayou at the Black Bayou Lake National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) in Monroe collaborate with the U.S. Wildlife Service to host the annual Fall Celebration at the Refuge. On October 17, the Friends of Black Bayou invite you and your family to come celebrate the National Wildlife Refuge Week with them at their free event. Although the NWR hosts events throughout the month and even extends into November, the Fall Celebration at the Refuge is a perfect opportunity for kids to learn about Louisiana forestry and wildlife in a fun and interactive setting—what a great opportunity! The best part of this celebration is the community involvement between local businesses, museums, the zoo, and many others. If you are looking for a fun, educational event, the Fall Celebration on the Refuge is for you and your family!

West Monroe’s Landry Vineyards will close their outdoor music concert series for the year on October 24 with a performance by Lisa Spann. Between the live music, food, and family-friendly atmosphere, I couldn’t think of a more beautiful way to spend a Saturday night! Owner, Jeff Landry, spoke with me and said to be on the lookout for more events as the holidays near!
