George’s Pond at Hirsch Coliseum to offer Public Ice Skating

Ice skating is back and better than ever in Shreveport-Bossier!

No longer do we have to drive all the way to Marshall, Texas to ice skate. Encompass Sports Group and the Mudbug Hockey team are bringing this holiday past time to you with public ice skating at George’s Pond located inside the Hirsch Coliseum from November 7 all the way through February 2016. George’s Pond at Hirsch Coliseum will be turned into a winter wonderland where visitors can skate to Christmas carols.

In years past, outdoor ice skating has been offered in Shreveport. But the magic would quickly fade as our warm winter temperatures turned the ice into slush. Skaters were left cold and wet. George’s Pond, however, will be an inside rink. When not open for public skating, our Mudbugs hockey team will be practicing on the ice. “It is something that this area and surrounding areas can enjoy. We need things to do with our families and we need things other than the movies. For us, this is an opportunity to go out and enjoy some great music, family time and exercise in one place,” said Scott Muscutt, General Manager of George’s Pond.

So, put on your old jeans and brace yourself to fall in love with this winter tradition all over again. Admission to the skating rink is $8 and free for children 6 and under. There are no age or height requirements to ice skate. Skate rentals of all sizes are available for $4. Parking is free. Concessions are available.
