A Taste of the Dynasty

The Louisiana Holiday Trail of Lights runs through eight different cities. Don’t visit them all on an empty stomach. Start off in West Monroe, and get a taste of Louisiana!

If you know anything about Monroe and West Monroe, Louisiana, you probably know something about Duck Dynasty. The Robertson family is your traditional Louisiana Bayou kind of people, and they have made their ties in that city. So, when I visited West Monroe, I had to stop by Miss Kay’s Sweets and Eats for breakfast.

Located on Antique Alley, the city’s historic district, this restaurant made me feel right at home. From the parking lot, I could smell the sweet goodies they were cooking up in the kitchen. The lawn chairs and picnic tables located on the patio reminded me of a day at the park. The rustic style of the restaurant brought a very cozy atmosphere. And the kiddie section was adorable! There were little camo chairs, toys and books everywhere.

I ordered a cafe Americano beverage and built my own croissant. My Americano came out almost immediately. Usually, I must add a ton of sugar before I can even consider drinking expresso, but I didn’t have to add one drop of sugar or creamer to my handcrafted drink.

When I first took a bite of my croissant, I must say I was a bit surprised. I was expecting it to taste like every other coffee shop croissant in the world…boy was I wrong! The bread was as fluffy as cotton, the sausage well done, the egg was seasoned to perfection and the cheese was melted like snow in July.

Miss Kay’s Sweets and Eats was founded by Miss Kay Robertson herself. It is operated by her granddaughter, Alex Mancuso and grandson-in-law, Vinny.
