Nothing sets the mood of the Christmas season like great holiday music. Fortunately, you can hear it live this weekend in Shreveport-Bossier at two perennial favorites.

The Shreveport Symphony Orchestra will present its annual Holiday Pops Concert featuring Shreveport native Timothy Jones as the special guest, 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, and 2:30 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 16, at Riverview Theater, 600 Clyde Fant Parkway in Shreveport. Jones is nationally renowned for his bass-baritone voice heard in live performances in Celeveland, Houston, Dallas, Pittsburgh, Baltimore and more. Expect to hear a mix of Christmas favorites and classics.

Of course, no Holiday Pops concert is complete without the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra Children’s Chorus. Plus, there will be a performance by the Louisiana Dance Theatre and a visit from Santa Claus. Tickets are $15 to $50 and can be purchased at www.shreveportsymphony.com.

Through the years, St. Mark’s Cathedral has also become a holiday attraction for its annual Festival of Lessons & Carols. This year’s event, held at 5:30 p.m., Sunday, Dec 16, at 908 Rutherford St. in Shreveport, will feature a mix of familiar and not-so-familiar carols performed by all of the cathedral’s choirs, as well as live readings of lessons pertaining to the birth of Christ. You don’t want to miss this free concert!
