New home tour joins festive holiday traditions in the sister cities
Shreveport-Bossier, La.—The sister cities will see annual holiday traditions and new festive events this year as Shreveport-Bossier celebrates the holidays in Louisiana’s Other Side.
Visitors may notice some bright lights leading them to holiday happenings along the trail this year. Two new 18 foot LED signs will point travelers to Holiday Trail of Lights events in Shreveport and Bossier City. One will be placed at the Greenwood Welcome Center, and the other will be on display at the Louisiana Boardwalk. All Holiday Trail of Lights partners- Alexandria-Pineville, Minden, Monroe-West Monroe and Natchitoches-will display the same set piece to promote events along the trail.
The official kickoff is marked by the lighting of a 40-foot Christmas tree the week before Thanksgiving at the Louisiana Boardwalk Christmas Tree Lighting Event. With more than 60 shops and eateries, a movie theater with a IMAX screen, a Courtyard by Marriott Hotel, and Bass Pro Shop, the Boardwalk is a one-stop-shop for the entire family. The event starts at 6 p.m., and is marked by free entertainment for the entire family.
The 29th Annual Christmas in Roseland at the Gardens of the American Rose Center has extended its run for Christmas 2012. One of the area’s longest running holiday events, Christmas in Roseland will run Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, Nov. 23-Dec. 23. This signature event is marked by more than one million lights and Christmas community cards made by area students.
New this year, local Step-on Guide Jan Pettiet will host Candlelight Christmas Tours Dec. 6-7 Dec. 13-14. The tours will include guided tours of the Logan Mansion and the Davis Homeplace in their most extravagant holiday décor. Transportation will be provided by A-1 Charter Service and light refreshments will be served.
Other holiday events and performances include, “The Nutcracker” presented by the Shreveport Metropolitan Ballet, Dec. 1-2. Shop for a cause at Les Boutiques de Noël, Nov. 15-17, and enjoy a modern take on the traditional holiday light display at the Barnwell Garden and Art Center’s Laser Light Show from Dec.16-23. For an off-the-beaten-path holiday experience, make plans to attend the Country Christmas Festival in Vivian and the Christmas on Caddo Fireworks Festival, Dec. 1. Take a short drive to Benton to enjoy a whimsical Christmas festival and parade at the 13th Annual Benton Christmas on the Square, Dec. 8.
